Why is it important to study Black women during Women's History Month?

Updated: Jul 14, 2024

It is important to study Black women for Women's History Month because their stories and contributions have often been overlooked or minimalized in mainstream historical narratives. Black women have played significant roles in shaping societies, cultures, and movements throughout history, yet their experiences and achievements are frequently underrepresented in historical accounts.By studying and amplifying the experiences of black women, we can gain a more comprehensive and inclusive understanding of women's history and the struggles and triumphs of Black communities. This can help to challenge and disrupt dominant narratives that have traditionally centered on the experiences of white women and promote a more intersectional and equitable approach to studying and celebrating women's history.
